左端に「御城塀 御普請方物」の高札が立つ。
『太閤記』で語られる清洲城の逸話の場面と見られる。崩れた城の塀を、普請奉行になった木下藤吉郎（のちの秀吉）が三日で直したという話で、信長がそれを見に来ている。合戦ではなく普請を描いた武者絵は珍しい。
明治21年（1888年）の刊行だが、芳藤（1828〜1887）はその前年に没しており、死後に摺られた。この摺りはミシガン州ディアボーンのロバート・コールターの旧蔵で、1995年にシカゴ美術館が買った。

歌川芳藤
歌川芳藤（1828〜1887）は「おもちゃ絵の芳藤」と呼ばれた。歌川国芳門下に学びながら、錦絵の主戦場である役者絵や武者絵ではなく、子供の手に渡る一枚——切って組み立てる組上絵、着せ替え、双六、そして猫尽くしの戯画——に生涯を捧げた絵師である。
