歌川国芳

天保の江戸で「武者絵の国芳」の名を知らぬ者はいなかった。歌川国芳（1797〜1861）は日本橋の染物屋の子に生まれ、十五歳で初代歌川豊国に入門する。しかし兄弟子歌川国貞（三代目歌川豊国）の陰で十年以上鳴かず飛ばず——転機は文政10年（1827年）頃の《通俗水滸伝豪傑百八人之一個》だった。
