Artist profile

落合芳幾は、開港した横浜の外国人から新聞に載った事件まで描いた浮世絵師である。「東京日日新聞」の創刊に加わり、記事を一枚の絵で伝える新聞錦絵も手がけた。天保4年（1833年）、江戸に生まれた。子どものころから絵を好み、質屋への奉公を経て、嘉永2年（1849年）ごろ歌川国芳に入門した。同門の浮世絵師・月岡芳年の兄弟子にあたる。
