Preparatory Drawing for an Illustration of the Book: Mirror of Famous Japanese Generals

月岡芳年（1839〜1892）は、芝居の残酷な場面を描いて「血みどろ絵師」と呼ばれた浮世絵師である。晩年には、月を題に歴史や物語を描いた「月百姿」や、「新形三十六怪撰」を手がけた。 江戸に生まれ、嘉永3年（1850年）、12歳で歌川国芳に弟子入りした。15歳で最初の挿絵と錦絵を発表する。
