Artist profile

川瀬巴水（1883〜1957）は、大正から昭和にかけて日本各地を旅し、その風景を木版画にした新版画の版画家である。東京・芝に生まれ、25歳ごろ鏑木清方に入門を願って「画家になるには年をとりすぎている」と断られたと伝わる。洋画の研究所に通ったのち、明治43年（1910年）、27歳で清方への入門を許された。「巴水」の号は清方が付けた。
